The idea of blending Merino wool and possum fibres was first developed in 1992 by a New Zealand knitter. Merino Possum knitwear emerged as a by-product of the possum control program, making the Merino possum blend an environmentally sound choice.

Why Possum Merino is Exceptional

• Hollow Core Fibre: The possum fibre's hollow core traps air, providing extraordinary warmth (up to 30% more than a 100% wool garment). This feature also makes the fibre lighter than most natural fibres, reducing the overall weight of a garment by over 20%.
• Pilling Resistance: Merino Possum yarn is highly resistant to pilling.
• Therapeutic Benefits: Scientific evidence suggests that an enzyme in the possum fibre helps combat skin conditions like athlete’s foot and eczema.
• Moisture Vapour Transmission: Both possum and Merino fibres have a complex structure with a hydrophilic interior and a hydrophobic exterior. Merino Possum fabric absorbs and expels moisture vapour, making it breathable and able to regulate the body's microclimate.

Care Guidelines

Washing Knitwear

• Hand Wash: Gently hand wash in lukewarm water using a mild wool detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting the garment to prevent damage to the fibres.
• Machine Wash: If using a washing machine, select a gentle wool cycle and use a mild wool detergent. Place the garment in a mesh laundry bag to protect it during the wash cycle.
• Drying: Lay the garment flat on a towel and reshape it to its original dimensions. Avoid hanging the garment, as this can stretch the fibres. Dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
• Ironing: If needed, iron on a low setting with a damp cloth between the iron and the garment to prevent scorching.
